The "Call Joe" directive that blinks from atop the Time and Temperature Building on Congress Street isn't a plea to prospective customers to call Joe Boulos, the owner of the real estate firm that rents space on the electronic billboard. It's from the new tenant himself.
"Call Joe," is the signature phase of Portland-based law offices of Joe Bornstein. Carl Trottier, the property manager for Boulos Property Management Co. in Portland, says the law office inked a two-year lease and began displaying its message on Aug. 1., more than five months after the sign's last tenant, news station WMTW, removed its name to save money. Neither Bornstein nor Trottier would disclose the value of the lease.
Bornstein says "Call Joe" represents part of the law office's new 1-800-Call-Joe number it rolled out earlier this year. The firm has offices in Portland, Biddeford, Lewiston, Augusta and Bangor specializing in personal injury and disability law.
Bornstein says displaying his law office's message is a way to boost his marketing. "It is Maine's only outdoor billboard," he says.
