Top medical pot official fired

The state's top medical marijuana regulator has been fired by the Department of Health and Human Services, according to the Bangor Daily News, and is planning an appeal.

The paper reported that John Thiele, the head of DHHS's Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services, confirmed to the paper that he was terminated from his position, effective Oct. 19.

A legislative liaison for the Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine told the paper that Denise Guay of DHHS' licensing and regulatory division is expected to take over day-to-day operations.
