Warden sues state over discrimination

A female warden is suing the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, alleging two of her bosses in the Maine Warden Service discriminated against her because of her sex.

Michell Belanger Merrifield says she suffered sexual discrimination from her boss Warden Christopher Simmons and that Thomas Santaguida, the former head of the agency, failed to do anything about it, according to the Bangor Daily News. Merrifield, who also claims the Maine Warden Service has a history of discrimination against women, is seeking unspecified monetary damages, the paper said.

The state Attorney General's Office, which is representing Simmons and Santaguida, is requesting the case be thrown out, the paper said.
