A printing company in Winthrop that printed carbonless forms for the state is shuttering at the end of the year, after the contract was given to an out-of-state company.
Jeff Nadeau, owner of Ideal Printing Service Inc. and currently its only worker, told the Kennebec Journal the loss of the state contract leaves him unable to make a living from the business. Ideal Printing had printed the state's pre-collated carbonless forms for about 30 years, but was the highest of three businesses that bid on the contract for Nov. 1 to Oct. 31, 2011. R.R. Donnelley of Monroe, Wis., was the lowest bidder. Nadeau purchased the business two years ago, and moved it from Augusta to Winthrop. He did have one employee, but that person is currently collecting unemployment, he told the paper. In March 2009, R.R. Donnelley closed its Wells printing plant and laid off 370 employees.
Ideal Printing also holds a state contract for memo pads that expires Jan. 30. Requests for bids for that contract will go out three weeks before that date.
