Wright Express earnings jump

Wright Express Corporation yesterday said its net income for the three months ending March 31 was $14.5 million, a 74.7% increase from the $8.3 million it posted during the same period last year.

The South Portland company, which provides payment processing and information management services to the U.S. commercial and government vehicle fleet industry, said its total revenue for the first quarter of 2008 increased 29% to $92.9 million, from $71.8 million this time last year, according to a press release.

The company said high customer retention and the March acquisition of Pacific Pride Services, an Oregon company with a network of franchised fueling stations for fleet vehicles, helped keep Wright Express strong.
