The Nature Conservancy in Maine is providing $1.7 million in grants to individuals, nonprofit groups and public agencies for wetland and wildlife conservation projects.
The competitive grant program is funded by the Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program, in collaboration with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Army Corps and the Nature Conservancy. The program seeks to “offset impacts to natural resources by funding the restoration, enhancement or preservation of similar habitats,” according to a press release.
Applicants must send their letters of intent by June 30 at https://mnrcp.org/ to learn if they are eligible. Grant awards are expected to be announced in early 2015.
Recently awarded funds include $115,000 to help the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership replace failing culverts in Harpswell, $107,000 to let the Damariscotta River Association purchase 97 acres of forest, and $137,000 to help the Loon Echo Land Trust purchase 150 acres of shoreline property in Sebago.
