Paul LePage's nominations of Mary Mayhew to head the Department of Health and Human Services and voted unanimously in favor of Walter Whitcomb as commissioner of the Department of Agriculture, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. Mayhew previously served as vice president of the Maine Hospital Association and was approved by a legislative committee 10-3. l Whitcomb is a Waldo County dairy farmer and owner of Springdale Jerseys Inc., and a legislative committee also unanimously backed him.

A legislative panel also gave unanimous support to David Bernhardt, LePage's nominee for commissioner of the Department of Transportation, according to MaineToday Media. Bernhardt told lawmakers the administration would oppose raising the gas tax and new bonding initiatives, and that he would focus on making the department as cost-effective as possible.
