Aroostook thrift store chain boosts Angel Flight NE operations
A donation of $3,100 from the Cubby Thriftstores chain in northern Maine to Angel Flight Northeast will help the latter continue its services.
“I know some people fear, with the loss of PenAir, that patient flights will cease,” Cindy Johnson, president of The Cubby Thriftstores and the CubbyGives program, told The Fiddlehead Focus. “Through the generosity of pilots who volunteer their time and fuel, patients in northern Maine will not go without.”
The nonprofit Angel Flight Northeast began operation in 1996 and has since scheduled more than 75,000 flights, according to its website. Its 1,000-plus volunteer pilots have flown over 14 million miles, providing more than 77,000 patients and their families free air transportation to medical care.
Angel Flight Northeast's main service area covers Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Cubby Thriftstores serves Presque Isle, Caribou and Madawaska, according to its website. The CubbyGives program was created to help provide financial support to cover lodging, food, fuel, medical equipment, and other expenses related to a need or hardship created by a life-threatening or chronic illness.
The CubbyGives program also strives to lessen the emotional burden faced by parents and families as they care for a child with a life threatening illness.
