British firm acquires WahlcoMetroflex
WahlcoMetroflex Inc., an engineering and manufacturing company in Lewiston, has been acquired by a British company.
Senior plc, based in Ricksmansworth, England, bought WahlcoMetroflex for $13.3 million, according to RTT News. A press release from the Lewiston company says its employees and managers, including President and CEO John Powell, will not change. It will continue to operate out of its facility in Lewiston. Powell said his company has seen a rise in demand for its pollution control products and that the acquisition will give WahlcoMetroflex "a better position to service these needs." Senior plc supplies expansion joints, bellows and hoses to the petrochemical, power generation and chemical processing facilities. The company currently owns operations in 11 countries.
WahlcoMetroflex, founded in 1972, makes flow control dampers, expansion joints and duct systems and reported 2009 sales of $22.7 million. The company in 1999 was bought by Tennessee-based company Thermatrix, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy the next year. Six local managers of WahlcoMetroflex, then known as Wahlco Engineered Products, purchased the company and began operating it independently in 2001.
