One of the most expansive of the broadband expansion projects goes under review tomorrow by the state's Broadband Strategy Council.
The $32 million Three Ring Binder project, sponsored primarily by Biddeford-based GWI, intends to develop enhanced broadband services in three areas of Maine. It will appear before the council Sept. 29 for a screening, according to a release from the project's backers, seeking endorsement for $26 million from the federal stimulus act. The project, one of more than a dozen proposals to expand service in Maine, is a collaboration among Maine telecommunications companies, institution and municipalities to expand high-speed Internet access in Down East, western and northern Maine. The project would develop three new rings of fiber optic cable providing town-to-town connectivity maintained by an independent company and available to all carriers.
The council is charged with reviewing each stimulus proposal and making a recommendation to the federal agencies that will disburse the funds.
I am not sure if GWI could support this project. Small back office, old systems that are overworked, terrible customer service
