Charge dropped against ex-panel member

A domestic violence charge against former economic forecasting commission member Lawrence Dwight Jr. has been dropped.

At Gov. Paul LePage's urging, Dwight resigned as a member of the state's Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission in July following his arrest after an incident involving his wife. The Franklin County District Attorney's Office has decided not to prosecute him, citing insufficient evidence, according to The Associated Press. His attorney, Kevin Joyce, called the incident a "normal marital spat." It is unclear whether Dwight will return to the commission.

The Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission meets two or three times a year to analyze economic trends and submit reports on the state's economy to the Revenue Forecasting Committee, governor and legislators that are used to help shape the state budget. Dwight was appointed to the commission by the other four members, who were chosen by LePage and legislative leaders.
