Commission: No penalty for Poliquin
The state's ethics commission has declined to levy a fine against state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin for failing to list business interests on a financial disclosure form he filed in 2011. The commission agreed with a staff recommendation not to penalize Poliquin.
Earlier this week, the staff at the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices said Poliquin did not adequately list his business income on a financial disclosure form, but that he should not face a penalty, the Sun Journal reported. The commission agreed with the staff's recommendation. Prompted by inquiries from Rep. Mark Dion, D-Portland, Maine's Attorney General William Schneider earlier this month said Poliquin cannot engage in business activity during his term and should appoint third parties to handle active management of any business venture. Poliquin is clerk and registered agent of Dirigo Holdings LLC and owner of the Popham Beach Club.
Dion on Tuesday proposed an order asking the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to determine if Poliquin's business activity has violated state rules. The House of Representatives may vote today on whether to request the court review, according to MaineToday Media.
