Construction starting on Rockland’s tallest hotel
A five-story hotel that is expected to become Rockland’s tallest building and which attracted some controversy earlier this year is beginning construction next week.
The Bangor Daily News reported that developer ADZ Properties LLC expects work on the hotel’s foundation will begin by Monday, following the city’s issuance of a permit this week. ADZ Properties is owned by Lyman Morse Boatbuilding proprietor Cabot Lyman.
Before it was approved by the Rockland Planning Board in June, the $2.9 million, 57-foot hotel building had been criticized by some neighbors for being too tall and out of character with the neighborhood. However, the plans do not violate the city’s current building height limits, which might be changed for future building proposals.
