Cuts expected in Baldacci's new budget

Gov. John Baldacci will unveil the state's next two-year budget, which is expected to include major cuts to programs and services, at a press conference scheduled for this afternoon.

No details of the new budget are currently available, but an aide to the governor told the Bangor Daily News that the fiscal year 2010-2011 biennial budget, which begins July 1, would equal $6.1 billion, less than the current $6.3 billion biennial budget. David Farmer, the governor's spokesman told the newspaper that budget cuts being considered in the current budget revision process hint at where cuts will be in the next two-year budget.

Details of the budget will be revealed at the press conference, which can be heard via live audio feed from the state's website. Or check the Mainebiz website this afternoon for an update.
