Four companies have submitted bids to run all or part of the state’s liquor distribution and marketing business.
The Maine Public Broadcasting Network reported that All Maine Spirits LLC and Pine State Trading, both of Augusta, CD&M Communications of Portland and Dirigo Spirit LLC of Cumberland submitted bids and refundable $500,000 deposits required to be considered for the contract. The 10-year deal is expected to generate more than $592 million in gross profits.
The station reported that only Pine State Trading, the current contract holder through a partnership with Maine Beverage Co., bid on all parts of the contract. All Maine Spirits bid on the distribution and warehousing contract while Dirigo Spirit and CD&M bid only on the marketing component of the contract officials, estimate could generate around $450 million in state revenue in the next decade.
The station reported a winning bidder could be announced before Christmas for the new 10-year contract, which goes into effect July 1, 2014.
