Franklin Memorial Health in Farmington has hired a new orthopedic surgeon that specializes in hip and knee replacements.
Ian Dickey will provide patient care at Franklin Health Orthopedics and orthopedic surgery at the hospital.
"My approach to care is a collaborative one," said Dickey in a news release. "The patient-physician dyad is paramount and one that sees the two working in concert towards the best outcome, with the relationship being one in which each side directs and shares input on options and treatment choices.
"And above all, able to share a laugh and a smile."
Dickey joins colleagues F. Lincoln Avery, Zachary Blakeman, Steven Coates, Thomas Pulling and Lillian Taylor.
Dickey was most recently employed as an orthopedic surgeon in Colorado at Anschutz Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs at Eastern Colorado Health Care. Before that, orthopedic care for 11 years at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Since 2015, Dickey has worked with Massachusetts-based company ConforMIS as a consultant in developing personalized knee replacements.
After completing his medical degree and internship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Dickey completed an orthopedic residency at McGill University Department of Surgery in Montreal. In 2003, he also completed a fellowship in orthopedic oncology and adult reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The Bangor resident co-founded the charity Chords for Cure to support Maine children fighting cancer and is chair of the Bangor Fourth of July celebration organizing committee.
Franklin Health Orthopedics offers sports medicine, podiatry and orthopedic services, joint replacement surgery, care for fractures, joint injection and general orthopedics.
Franklin Memorial Health is ranked No. 16 among Maine's largest hospitals in the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists, ranked by the number of licensed acute care beds.
