Greenville Steam Co. up for sale

The investment firm that owns Greenville Steam Co. has placed the biomass-fed boiler facility on the market, according to the Bangor Daily News.

New Energy Capital Corp., a Hanover, N.H.-based firm that owns and invests in renewable energy projects, is selling the facility based on the wishes of the "people who control the purse strings," according to the paper. New Energy is funded by VantagePoint Venture Partners. (Read about Greenville Steam Co. and the $10 million upgrade New Energy completed in the April 2007 Mainebiz story, "Burn, baby, burn".)

The sale does not reflect the long term viability of the plant or affect its 25 employees, a company official told the paper.
