Rumford council supports casino

Rumford selectman voted 3-2 last night to support a casino in Oxford County.

Seth Carey, who has worked for two years to bring a casino to the area, said he is considering several locations in Rumford for the facility should it be allowed by voters, according to the Sun Journal in Lewiston. A selectman supporting the proposal told the board its support was critical for the project to be approved by voters statewide in November. A selectman in opposition said he was bothered by what he had heard about the plan, though he didn't specify as to what he was referring. Pat LaMarche resigned as the casino's spokesperson this week saying she would not lie for the project, according to the paper. Rumford selectmen plan to meet with Carey in a workshop session or closed-door meeting in the next few weeks to discuss details of the proposal, the paper reported.
