Chad Mullin has been promoted to executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland, stepping into a role held by Tara Hill, who retired.
The nonprofit has been busy of late.
It has 12 homes under construction in Standish and another eight in South Portland.
Mullin, who has been with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland since 2011, previously served as the director of construction and housing programs.
His experience with Habitat for Humanity started in college, on a spring break volunteer trip to Coatesville, Pa.
After graduating from the University of Maine, he joined AmeriCorps, serving as construction site-supervisor with Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte, N.C.
“Habitat for Humanity has always been more than just a job for me. It’s a way to live out my faith and contribute to the community,” said Mullin. “I am honored to step into this new role and continue working with our amazing team to provide affordable, energy-efficient homes to families in need.”
Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland has built 86 homes in Cumberland County.
The previous director, Hill, retired after three years leading the nonprofit.
Under her leadership, Habitat build five affordable homes while completing more than 100 home repairs. She oversaw the completion of a Freeport community and the initiation of the projects in Standish and South Portland. She also served on South Portland's affordable housing committee where she advocated for reduced housing construction costs and maintaining affordability.
“I am proud to have been part of a team that accomplished so much over the past three years and am thrilled that Chad was chosen as Habitat’s new leader," Hill said. "As I move into retirement, I look forward to watching him continue to grow the program and provide even more affordable housing in our communities."
