Many businesses throughout Maine stay closed as manhunt continues

As the manhunt for Robert Card continues in the Lewiston area, many companies throughout Maine remain closed 
Friday. Events have been canceled and many schools have canceled classes or will have a remote learning day.

Closings and other adjustments

  • Hannaford opens again in Gray and Yarmouth but remains closed in Auburn, Brunswick (Cooks Corner), Brunswick (Elm Street), Lewiston, Mechanic Falls, Topsham and Turner. 
  • L.L. Bean: Lewiston manufacturing facility will remain closed and Freeport retail stores will also remain closed today out of an abundance of caution. Other L.L.Bean facilities and offices are reopening on a case-by-case basis.
  • Nearly 200 school districts closed Friday, according to News Center Maine, including Acton, Biddeford, Brunswick, Central Lincoln County, Dayton, Eustis, Gorham, Lewiston, Saco, Sanford, Scarborough, Sebago, South Portland, Vassalboro, Wells-Ogunquit, Westbrook, Winslow, Winthrop, Yarmouth and about two dozen other regional school units that include children from more than one community.
  • Old Orchard Beach town offices will remain closed.
  • Coffee By Design is open but said in a social media post that it is watching to see if that needs to be changed.
  • Bates College is still in campus lockdown; employees are working from home. 
  • The University of Southern Maine: Lewiston campus is closed; all classes and operations are canceled.
    Portland and Gorham campuses are open. All classes are canceled. Events may take place at the discretion of the organizers.
  • The University of New England will resume classes and normal university operations, including athletics activities, today.
  • All Skowhegan Savings branches will remain drive-up or by appointment only today.
  • Androscoggin Bank’s Auburn, Lewiston, Lisbon, Brunswick and Turner locations will remain closed today. Portland, South Paris, Jay and Gray locations are open with drive-thru services only. 
  • All First National Bank branches will be drive-up only, with the exception of its Wiscasset branch.
  • Gorham Savings Bank branches continuing drive-thru only service.
  • Bangor Savings: All Maine branches are closed but New Hampshire branches are open.
  • Camden National: Branches in Lewiston, Auburn, Bath, Brunswick Cooks Corner and Main Street, Richmond and Topsham closed today. Other locations open for drive-up service only.
  • Bar Harbor Bank & Trust: Brunswick branch closed, all other Maine branches drive-up only.
  • First National Bank: Wiscasset branch closed, all other branches drive-up only
  • Machias Savings Bank: “Out of an abundance of caution, our branches will remain open, but our doors will be locked, letting known customers in as needed. Please consider drive-thru and mobile options and please be safe.”
  • Kennebunk Savings Bank: Winthrop, Farmingdale, Freeport and Portland locations closed Friday, Augusta and two Waterville branch locations open.
  • Norway Savings Bank: Auburn, Topsham and Maine Street, Brunswick branches closed until further notice, all other branches open with drive-up service only.
  • Northeast Bank: All banking centers closed Friday.
  • The Portland Museum of Art will remain closed. 
  • Concord Coach bus line suspended service at Auburn and Lewiston (Bates) stops and suspension will continue until the lockdown is lifted.
  • Pineland Farms in New Gloucester will keep its market, outdoor center and farm closed and asks patrons to check social media for updates on when they plan to reopen. Anyone with tickets to the farm will be contacted today and will be refunded.
  • Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches across Maine will be open by appointment only today, except for the Lewiston branch, which will remain closed. 
  • The Portland International Jetport remains open but says police and DHS have increased patrols.
  • Bath Iron Works has said first-shift workers impacted by the lockdown should not report to work today (similar to yesterday). Employees in locked-down areas do not need to report to work but need to check in with the supervisor.
  • The State Theatre in Portland has rescheduled its show "Neighbors" to Dec. 8.
  • The John Mulaney and Pete Davidson show, scheduled for Oct. 29 at the Cross Insurance Arena, has been postponed. 
  • The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department will cancel the Touch A Truck event scheduled for this evening at the Cross Insurance Center.  The Kids Cave before and after school program and other indoor activities will continue as planned with enhanced safety protocols to ensure the well-being of our participants and staff. 
  • The Gardiner Downtown Trick or Treat event has also been canceled. 
  • Harvest on the Harbor in Portland is moving ahead with today's Maine Lobster Chef of the Year event. In a social media post, they said there have been some adjustments with safety in mind and hope to bring some joy during a troubling time.
  • PetCo in South Portland is open but keeping doors locked and only letting customers in who call.
