A new 93-room, $12 million hotel is set to open in Lewiston on Wednesday, marking another step in the city’s effort to revitalize its downtown area.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the four-story Hampton Inn on Lincoln Street helps satisfy a key part of Lewiston’s Riverfront Island Master Plan, which sought development of a hotel in that same exact lot.
The hotel is owned by Lincoln Street Hoteliers LLC, a company led by Chris Thompson, the developer behind the planned $110 million development at Thompson’s Point in Portland. It is being operated by LodgeSys Inc., which operates the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, N.H.
Machias Savings Bank and a loan from the United States Department of Agriculture helped finance the project. The project was also approved by the city as a 10-year Tax Increment Financing district that will refund $1 million in property taxes to the developer.
