Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems said Wednesday that it has finalized the new structure for its information systems department as well as employee cuts in an effort to decrease costs by about $2 million.
EMHS is eliminating more than 40 jobs and restructuring the department in an effort to avoid a $100 million gap in 2019, the healthcare system said in a statement.
The health care provider in July said it would bring 61 positions into a centralized information system structure starting Oct. 1. Also, it said 43 positions would be eliminated, of which 15 were vacant, 23 were cut and five were redundant.
Since the July announcement, 13 employees have found new positions in the EMHS system and four are interviewing for positions in the information systems department. Eleven are still seeking jobs.
EMHS is the parent company of eight hospitals, including Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. There are more than 350 information systems employees throughout EMHS. The medical system said 309 will work within the new information systems structure, while 31 staff members will move to Informatics and Education within the Office of the Chief Medical Officer.
