NewPage cuts back on production

NewPage Corp. is temporarily shutting down one of its paper machine at its Rumford mill, directly affecting as many as 30 employees.

Matt Bean, union president of Local 900 at the NewPage mill, told the Sun Journal that the shutdown will begin Sept. 18 and last for two weeks. Bean told the paper the mill will likely look for voluntary layoffs.

The paper mill has been cutting back production on its paper machines over the past year in order to match production with demand.
