Newsworthy people and performances for Oct. 28, 2019

New hires

Acadia Family Center in Southwest Harbor hired Stefanie Joy Muscat as executive director. Muscat was previously director of advancement at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor.

Northern Light Cardiology in Bangor hired Krishna Alluri as a non-invasive cardiologist. Alluri is a member of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians.

CEI, a Brunswick-based community lending and economic development nonprofit, hired Amy Winston as state policy director, Leah Thibault as marketing manager and Anna Ackerman as Women’s Business Center program developer. Winston previously conducted ethnographic fieldwork in an eastern Kentucky mining town that was seeking to diversify its economic dependence on coal following mine closures; Thibault was director of executive administration and special projects for CEI Capital Management, a subsidiary of CEI focused on New Markets Tax Credit transactions; and Ackerman was assistant director at the Oak Institute for Human Rights at Colby College.

Northern Light Neurosurgery and Spine in Bangor hired Michael Cohen to provide comprehensive evaluation and management of complex brain tumors and spine surgery. Cohen is board certified in Neurological Surgery.

Northern Light Plastic and Hand Surgery in Bangor hired John McGill. Previously in private practice, McGill is board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Maine Department of Health and Human Services hired Jessica Pollard as director of the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services. Pollard was an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine as well as clinical director of Early Psychosis Services.

United Way of York County in Kennebunk hired Kevin Whittaker as finance and data director and Maggie Cummings as community impact project manager. Whittaker was managing director, global treasury at State Street Corp. in Boston while Cummings is a recent graduate of Syracuse University.

University of Maine at Farmington hired Kenneth Lewis as director of Educational Outreach and Erin Connor as associate dean of the university’s Division of Graduate and Continuing Education. Lewis was previously with Thomas College where he managed departmental operations for undergraduate admissions while Connor was director of graduate programs in education at the University of New England.

Promotions

U.S. Cellular promoted TJ Caldwell to sales manager in Farmington and Seth Cleaves to sales manager in Presque Isle. Caldwell was a retail wireless consultant in Bangor while Cleaves was a retail wireless consultant in Presque Isle.

Community Health Options in Lewiston promoted Maggie Kelley to senior vice president and chief clinical officer. Kelley, who is a nurse practitioner with expertise in care management, was previously vice president of medical management.

Harriman, an architecture firm in Auburn, promoted Lisa Sawin to principal. Sawin is a senior architect and leader in the firm’s Education Studio.

Hopkinson & Abbondanza PA, a law firm in Portland, named Gerald Schofield Jr. a partner. Schofield has been with the firm for eight years and practices in the areas of residential and commercial real estate, estate planning and probate matters, corporate and business planning and general civil litigation.

Appointments

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, said that attorney Jordan Payne Hay was elected to serve a two-year term as a member of the Central Maine Human Resources Association board of directors. Hay’s practice includes employment law, civil rights, human resources support and intellectual property.

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association elected Jason Howe, Rebecca Hatfield and Ethan Boxer-Macomber to its board of directors. Howe is partner at Preti Flaherty, Hatfield is vice president of real estate development and management at Avesta Housing and Boxer-Macomber is principal of Anew Development.

Achievements

Bristol Seafood in Portland said its My Fish Dish product was named among the Top 25 most innovative seafood products in North America by SeafoodSource.

April Ylvisaker, senior vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc. in Portland, was included on the 2019 Forbes “Best-in-State Next-Generation Wealth Advisors” list.

Pam Bolduc, general manager of the Olive Garden in South Portland, achieved “Diamond Club” status, the top honor at parent company Darden Restaurants. Only 43 general managers were selected from more than 850 Olive Garden restaurants in North America.

The Portland Water District captured the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” from the Government Finance Officers Association representing a commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The water district also announced that Mike Penny, a collections systems operator, won the “Charles Perry Collection System Award;” James Galasyn, lead environmental scientist, was awarded the “David Anderson Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award;” and Scott Firmin, Director of Wastewater Services, captured the “Roger Gagne Award” at the Maine Wastewater Environment Association fall convention.

Andrew Silsby, president and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank, published an article for Forbes.com about the importance of high-quality internship programs to the strength of today’s workforce.

Meesha Luce, a personal insurance account executive with Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, earned the “Safeco Insurance Award of Excellence” for a fifth consecutive year.

DMM Inc., a digital document solutions provider in Scarborough, received four awards for “Creative Excellence” from the New England Direct Marketing Association, a regional affiliate of the world’s largest direct mail trade association, the Direct Marketing Association. The company received gold awards for “Integrated Media Campaign” for its own rebrand cross-media campaign and for “Digital Technique in Website Self-Promotion” for its rebranded corporate website; a silver award for “Technique in Best Website Design” for its rebranded corporate website; and a bronze award for “Direct Mail Self-Promotion” for its rebranded launch mailer. The company also announced it achieved the “G7 Master Qualification” for its new inkjet technology platform from Idealliance, a not-for-profit industry organization dedicated to guiding print production best practices, specifications, and standards worldwide.

Verrill, a law firm in Portland, announced that attorneys Martha Gaythwaite and Karen Frink Wolf were named two of the nation’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation” by Benchmark Litigation. Gaythwaite is chair of the firm’s litigation and trial group while Frink Wolf is chair of the firm’s professional liability and licensure group.

KeyBank said it was recognized by the National Organization on Disability as a “Leading Disability Employer” for a third consecutive year.

Nicole Cote of the Bar Harbor Hannaford Supermarket took home top honors at the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association’s 6th annual Best Bagger Championship.

Girl Scouts of Maine announced that Deb Neuman, president and CEO of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, was named the “2019 Juliette Award” winner. The award was established to honor a woman who embodies the essence of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins received the “2019 Legislator of the Year Award” from the New England Water Works Association, the region’s largest and oldest not-for-profit organization of water works professionals.

The Maine Society of Human Resources Management announced its “2019 Best Places to Work in Maine” winners. Edward Jones captured the “Large Company Category (250-plus U.S. Employees),” Maine State Credit Union won in the “Medium Company Category (50 to 249 U.S. Employees)” and Planson International in New Gloucester took top spot in the “Small Company Category (15 to 49 U.S. Employees).”

Nicole Emery, a nurse in charge at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, earned the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse credential from the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board.
