Portland-Nova Scotia flight delayed

Twice-daily airplane service between Maine and Nova Scotia scheduled to kick off today has been postponed pending regulatory approval.

Starlink Aviation of Montreal hopes to obtain final approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation by Feb. 16, a company spokeswoman told the Portland Press Herald. A news conference celebrating the international air service is still scheduled for today at the Portland International Jetport.

Starlink's agreement with the Nova Scotia-based Yarmouth International Airport Corp. is to provide round-trip flights connecting Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Yarmouth Airport and the Portland International Jetport. It would mark the first international service for Portland since 2002, when financially troubled Air Canada ended its Portland-to-Montreal route. Prices are expected to be about $250 for a one-way trip from Halifax to Portland and $150 from Yarmouth to Portland.
