The former and current owners of Shaw’s Supermarkets are investigating a large hacking scheme that may have led to a theft of data from customers’ credit and debit cards.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Shaw’s, including its 22 stores in Maine, is still using payment-processing services from its former parent company, Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc., which was the target of a cyber-attack between June 22 and July 17. The security breach may have impacted up to 200 of its stores, in addition to all Shaw’s locations.
The hacking scheme may have given hackers access to transaction information for credit and debit cards, but the situation currently looks promising for customers.
Mark Bates, senior vice president and chief information officer of AB Acquisition, the current owner of Shaw’s, said there is “no evidence at this point that consumer data has been misused,” noting that the company has been working with Supervalu on the breach.
Customers can call Supervalu regarding concerns at (855) 731-6018.
