Pro Search Inc., a Portland-based company that provides recruitment and staffing services, is now owned by its 11 employees.
Ed McKersie, founder and president of Pro Search, announced on Nov. 1 that he had converted the company, which he established in 1994, from an S corporation to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, selling it to his employees.
McKersie will continue as president.
“Our team has had very little turnover over the years, and this is a great way to thank them and acknowledge their contributions in building what is now Maine’s largest privately held recruiting and staffing firm,” he said in a news release. Pro Search currently has more than 200 temporary and contract employees working for employers across Maine.
“The ‘outside world’ won’t notice much of a difference in dealing with us, because our team has always put our firm’s reputation and the best interest of our clients and temporary/contract employees first,” McKersie said. “I am proud to work alongside these special people, and now call myself a co-worker. Our best days are yet to come.”
Pro Search is the second Maine company this week to announce its ownership was being transferred to employees under an ESOP plan. As Mainebiz reported Thursday, the three co-founders of ReVision Energy, a regional solar company that has five offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, have converted their company to 100% ownership by employees through an ESOP Trust.
Other ESOP companies in Maine include Cianbro, Sargent Corp., Spinnaker Trust, Ethos, Reed & Reed Inc., Clark Insurance, Mainely Tubs, Wright-Ryan Construction Inc., Warren Construction Group, Landry/French Construction Co., Kennebec Technologies, GAC Chemical Corp. and Knickerbocker Group.
