Rockland Savings faces lawsuit over theft
Rockland Savings Bank is facing legal action after an employee allegedly used her position at the bank to embezzle money from her relatives. One family member who lost at least $95,000 sued the bank last month.
Christopher Wellman filed a lawsuit against the bank after his sister, Shauna Quinn, a longtime bank employee, opened a line of credit in his name and then allegedly accessed it for her own personal use, according to the Bangor Daily News. The suit did not name Quinn, but the bank named her in its response filed last week, saying she was fired last year. Quinn allegedly used funds from lines of credit she created for her brother and other family members to refurbish her house, pay family members' bills and take them on vacation. The FBI is investigating, and Quinn will likely face charges from the U.S. Attorney's Office, according to the paper.
Wellman is suing the bank for negligence and is seeking damages and the restoration of his credit. According to the bank, when Quinn's alleged misconduct was uncovered, it worked with Wellman to ensure his money was refunded. Rockland Savings is seeking dismissal of the lawsuit.
