Rockland sues former lobster processor

The city of Rockland has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a lobster processing business that the city claims was set up to shelter debts to the city.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Antonio Bussone of Chelsea, Mass. and his Rockland Lobster Co. are the targets of the lawsuit that claims almost $40,000 in debts and damages to the city after the closure of Rockland Lobster Co. LLC and Bussone's other operation, Live Lobster Co. Inc.

Live Lobster Co.'s facilities were auctioned off earlier in September after TD Bank filed suit against the company and eventually arranged a foreclosure auction.

The latest lawsuit from Rockland claims that Rockland Lobster stopped doing business in April and since that time failed to maintain its assets on the pier, which left the city picking up a tab of around $4,000 for cleanup.

The lawsuit, which claims Rockland Lobster owes the city $31,173 in permits and fees, asks that the court disregard Rockland Lobster Co. LLC as a distinct entity and that it hold Bussone liable for the debt.
