Ruling supports state union fees

An arbitrator has ruled in favor of the Maine State Employees Association in a dispute over fees charged to non-union state workers.

About 80 state workers challenged the fee, which non-union members are required by contract to pay, claiming it did not accurately reflect their share of the costs, according to the Kennebec Journal. The union has roughly 10,000 members, while 1,000 pay the service fee and about 500 have paid neither union dues or a service fee, according to the Associated Press.
