Searsport tank decision awaits Jan. hearings

A verdict on whether a 23-million-gallon liquid propane tank project can move ahead in Searsport will wait until at least mid-January, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The $40 million project has already received approval from the state's Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; local approval is the last hurdle it needs to proceed.

But local opposition has taken a strong stance against the proposal, which was the subject of five consecutive nights of public hearings last week.

The planning board is scheduled to begin reviewing the tank plan against the town's land use ordinances on Jan. 16, the paper reported.
