Seven-unit condo project gets green light for Portland's East End

A two-family home in Portland’s Munjoy Hill neighborhood will be demolished to make way for a seven-unit, energy efficient condominium.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the city’s planning board approved the project, planned for 30 Merrill St., on Tuesday night. The condo’s developer, Tom Landry, told the Press Herald that utility bills for the 750- to 900-square-foot studio units could be as low as $100 thanks to efficiency efforts including triple-pane windows, efficient insulations and “deliberate venting technology” that is able to control the property’s air intake and exhaust.

Landry added that he’s expecting to have building permits for construction in the coming weeks, with units available this spring or summer with a price tag in “the low $300,000s,” according to the Press Herald.
