The brand used by the state of Maine to market its agricultural products is getting a new look for the first time in nearly two decades.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry introduced a new logo and a new marketing campaign on Tuesday, as thousands of people were expected to gather for the 79th Maine Agricultural Trades Show in Augusta.
The brand, which uses the tagline “Real Maine,” builds on a previous promotion, “Get Real, Get Maine,” which DACF launched in 2001.
“The goal for Real Maine is to provide a fresh logo and a smart marketing and communications campaign that opens more doors for Maine agriculture,” said DACF Commissioner Amanda Beal in a news release. “We believe this will help galvanize more local, regional and national demand for our agricultural products.”
The goal of the new look is to increase consumer awareness and purchases, both within and outside the state, of Maine agricultural products.
Nancy McBrady, director of the state’s Bureau of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources, said, “Our agricultural community voiced the need for an updated promotional campaign, and we listened. We are excited about the momentum the refreshed look will create.”
DACF said the logo was based on extensive research and inspired by the look of passport stamps.
The logo will appear in different forms at farmers markets, grocery stores, agricultural events and trade shows throughout the state and the country. A new “Real Maine” website will launch in the spring.
Looks like a beer coaster for Lone Pine Brewing.
Since most agricultural news in Maine is related to beer and pot, this design may work well.
Why is the icon pine trees? I get pine trees are an iconic Maine symbol but they have nothing to do with agriculture. Odd!
