Statoil revises offshore wind pilot project
Amid scrutiny from regulators, the Norwegian company Statoil has revised its plans for its offshore wind pilot project in the Gulf of Maine.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the new plan reduces the cost of energy generated by the test project and addresses concerns over the long-term benefits to the state expressed by two of three commissioners of Maine's Public Utilities Commission in October of last year.
Still, the revised proposal has received a lukewarm reception from Patrick Woodcock, the new director of the Governor's Energy Office, who told the BDN he was concerned the new price reduction depends on the project receiving $47 million in U.S. Department of Energy grants and investment tax credits for capital costs.
The project received funding in the first stage of those grants in December, getting $4 million for engineering, design and permitting costs related to the project.
