Telecom and cable TV giant Spectrum will hire as many as 175 customer service representatives for its Portland call center, as it shifts its focus to supporting the company's wireless network.
Spectrum, the brand name for Stamford, Conn.-based Charter Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR), plans to hire the reps through the end of 2022, according to a news release. They will provide billing support, account management, activation services and technical help for clients of the Spectrum Mobile business.
The jobs offer hourly wages starting at $18 an hour, with a shift differential for evening work hours, as part of Spectrum's commitment to a $20 minimum wage in 2022, the company said.
“Spectrum Mobile customer service roles offer career opportunities to hard-working local talent,” said Joe Ploof, vice president of mobile customer service for Spectrum. “Over the last two years, we have added hundreds of career defining positions to our community. We are continuing to hire to support the fastest-growing mobile provider in the country.”
A job fair for the positions will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the call center, which is a major tenant of Washington Park, at 901 Washington Ave. in Portland.
Spectrum did not say whether there would be any changes in its footprint at the business campus as a result of the hiring spree.
Washington Park is also home to the headquarters of Martin's Point Health Care and of behavioral health care provider Spurwink. The site was originally a shopping center, built in 1970 as the Rainbow Mall, and which later housed now-defunct Andover College.
With 26 million subscribers in 41 states, Charter Communications is the country's second-largest cable operator, just behind Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA).
