IntriCon Tibbetts Corp. has laid off 20 full-time employees from its manufacturing plant in Camden as part of its decision to transfer some of its manufacturing to its operations in Singapore.
The company, which manufactures electro-acoustic technology for hearing aids and cell phones, laid off the 20 workers on Sept. 26, according to VillageSoup. Scott Longval, IntriCon's chief financial officer, told the paper that the company was scaling back its hearing health manufacturing at its facility in Camden, which employed 80 people before the layoffs, and instead focusing on its professional audio and communications division at that facility.
IntriCon, based in Arden Hills, Minn., acquired Camden-based Tibbetts Industries in April 2007 for $4.5 million. The layoffs, part of the company's restructuring, have been anticipated since that acquisition and were announced to Tibbetts employees last year, according to VillageSoup.
