Town loan funds lab expansion

A $100,000 loan from Richmond will allow a commercial laboratory in the town to expand.

Micro Technologies Inc., which performs tests on aquatic animals, is one of two businesses to receive a loan through Richmond's economic development tax increment financing program, the Brunswick Times Record reported. The company, which currently employs 11, next spring will move from its Main Street location to the site of the former Isamax whoopee pie bakery on Route 201, and could add three to five employees in the next five years.

The TIF program, approved by residents in 2000, earmarks property taxes for economic development uses, the paper reported. The Texas Barbeque Co. of Auburn also received a $20,000 loan to relocate to Richmond.
