The town of Raymond received two questionable bids to manage Sebago Lake's only public beach, which has turned over to private management since closing in 2010 for health concerns.
The Lakes Region Weekly reported that Diane Monty, of Oxford, and Mike Tarantino, of Massachusetts, have submitted competing proposals to manage the beach in exchange for the ability to operate a business at the summer destination.
The paper reported that Tarantino's bid arrived late and Monty's bid was incomplete when it arrived to the town manager's office.
Since 2010, when the beach was closed because of high E. coli and fecal coliform bacteria counts, the paper reported, the town has struggled to find a private entity to manage the beach and run a business there.
The paper reported that a floating café, which had a successful summer in 2011, began having structural problems early in 2012 and closed.
For the latest pact, Monty has proposed to run a hot dog stand at the beach; Tarantino proposed operating a parasailing and boat rental business at the beach.
The Raymond Board of Selectmen will decide whether the incomplete and late bids will qualify for review.
