This ain't Texas, as the Beyoncé song goes, so United Airlines plans to offer a summer nonstop service to Houston from the Portland International Jetport.
The new service will operate on Saturdays starting June 28, 2025.
“This is a big announcement for the Jetport,” said Paul Bradbury, the jetport's airport director. “This coming summer United Airlines will connect the world to Portland with non-stop service to five of their hubs ...This level of service is truly remarkable and we are grateful for United’s continued investment in the Portland market."
The carrier is owned by Chicago-based United Airlines Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: UAL).
With hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York-Newark, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., United operates the most comprehensive global route network among North American carriers and claims to be the world's largest airline.
In October, United posted third-quarter earnings and revenue that beat market expectations.
Currently at the Portland International Jetport, United operates flights to and from Chicago O'Hare, Denver, Newark Liberty International Airport and Washington Dulles.
"United is the largest airline, flying over 450-plus flights daily out of Houston, and this will allow even more travelers to experience the beauty of Portland," said Mark Weithofer, United's managing director for domestic planning.
The new service will be operated on a 76-seat Embraer E-175 aircraft.
Earlier this month, Houston-based Avelo Airlines announced plans to add a route from Portland to Tweed-New Haven Airport in southern Connecticut.
