Wellness Connection of Maine, the operator of four of Maine’s eight medical marijuana dispensaries, has voluntarily recalled two varieties of its cannabis after finding high levels of microbes during lab tests.
The Kennebec Journal reported that the company has recalled a portion of recent harvests of “Blue Dream” and “LA Confidential” varieties of medical marijuana due to higher-than-acceptable microbe levels.
Becky DeKeuster, co-founder and director of education for WCM, told the newspaper microbes that could become molds if customers stored the marijuana in containers with too much humidity or heat had approached the company’s internal standards, leading to the recall. There are no state or federal standards for those microbes, she told the newspaper.
DeKeuster said about 500 of the company’s 10,000 customers were affected by the recall of the two medical marijuana varieties, with LA Confidential being used as a pain reliever, for relaxation and for treating insomnia, and Blue Dream being used to treat digestive problems and depression.
The company operates dispensaries in Portland, Brewer, Gardiner and Thomaston.
Customers impacted by the recall are being notified by mail and offered a refund, the newspaper reported.
