Winglass resigns; Paquette nominated for labor commissioner
Citing a desire to retire, Labor Commissioner Robert Winglass has resigned his position. Deputy Commissioner Jeanne Paquette has been nominated by Gov. Paul LePage to become the new labor commissioner, according to a release from the governor's office.
Paquette, who has served as deputy commissioner since July 2011, founded several human resources-related publications and websites, including the Employment Times, HR Times and MyJobWave.com. Prior to founding her media businesses in 1999, Paquette was vice president, human resources, at Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston. Her nomination needs to be confirmed by the Legislature.
According to the governor's release, Winglass agreed to hold the labor commissioner post for a period of one-to-two years when he accepted the nomination. He was appointed commissioner in June 2011. He recently sold his home in Bath and has moved with his wife to Surry, where he intends to retire.
LePage thanked Winglass for his service and said the Department of Labor "has made significant progress during the past year under his leadership, becoming more efficient and responsive to the needs of our people and businesses."
