The city of Auburn has approved a medical marijuana dispensary at the Auburn Plaza.
The city's planning board this week voted unanimously to allow Remedy Compassion, one of the state's eight approved marijuana dispensary operators, to renovate existing space at the plaza on Center Street, according to the Sun Journal. The nonprofit had considered nearly 20 sites to serve District 3, which is made up of Franklin, Oxford and Androscoggin counties, but chose the Auburn Plaza site for its proximity to the Auburn Mall, accessibility via public transportation and its "relatively discreet location," Jennifer Smale, patient services director for Remedy Compassion, told the paper. Initially, Remedy Compassion planned to open Dec. 13, but that date could change, according to the paper.
The plaza already houses Big Lots, Bed, Bath & Beyond and T.J. Maxx retail stores, as well as Flagship Cinemas.
