Cape Neddick’s 2 River Road Inn & Cottages has been renovated under new owner Tracey Dewhurst and recently reopened as a year-round business.
Dewhurst bought the 15-cottage and inn development last fall. She also owns the Victoria Inn Bed & Breakfast and Pavilion in nearby Hampton, N.H. The inn and cottages will be managed by Nora and Phyllis Hamilton, formerly of Hampton Beach, who will live onsite.
The inn was built in 1780 and the cottages were formerly Hoyt’s Cottages. River Road residents Ken Baublitz and Joe Knapp bought the property in April 2013 and reopened it in May 2014 as 2 River Road Inn & Cottages. When Dewhurst bought it last fall, she added upgrades and also made it a year-round business, according to its website.
The property is on 2.5 acres, and includes cottages that are dog friendly, some with full kitchens or kitchenettes and three inn suites, inn suites, which will be open year round. There is a pool, a gazebo and a wooded area that includes a walking trail.
Dewhurst said in a news release that she was amazed at the great condition of the property the first time she saw it, but also recognized its antique charm. “We have tried to maintain the feel of the Colonial Inn and summer vacation cottage with all the conveniences of a modern hotel,” she said.
The store will be open year-round and will sell Phyllis Hamilton’s pebble art and locally made gift items.
