Cianbro buys Mass. steel plant

Cianbro Fabrication and Coating Corp., based in Pittsfield, has acquired the Massachusetts steel fabrication facility of Precise Structural Products, a move that the company says will allow it to pursue larger projects and give better access to work in New York and Boston.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the facility will be the company's third major steel fabrication facility, adding to those in Pittsfield and Baltimore, and adding 30 new employees to the company's roster of around 4,000 workers. The sale price was not disclosed.

Cianbro spokesman Alan Grover told the BDN that the purchase will allow the company to increase production on projects like fabricating steel for the renovation of the Brooklyn Bridge and allow the company to expand its product line to include "stringer bridges," which use a rolled beam as the main component of the structure.
