Cos. get $180K for energy efficiency

Eight Maine businesses are receiving a total of $183,339 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for energy-efficiency upgrades.

In a press release Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud announced the funding through USDA's Rural Energy for America Program. "Improving energy efficiency or converting to clean energy alternatives can help businesses save money and lead to additional job creation," he said in the release.

Recipients are:

  • Bancroft Contracting Corp., South Paris: A total of $40,000; $20,000 for solar and $20,000 for energy efficiency
  • North Country Rivers Inc., Bingham: A total of $29,359; $20,000 for solar and $9,359 for energy efficiency
  • OKJ Construction Inc., Skowhegan: $20,000 for biomass
  • Arundel Business Center LLC, Arundel: $19,997 for solar
  • Grant's Bakery Inc., Lewiston: $19,957 for solar
  • America's Wood Co., Washington: $18,750 for solar
  • Lincoln County Publishing Co., Newcastle: $18,750 for solar
  • Haley Construction Inc., Sangerville: $16,526 for solar
