Downeaster gets $500k

Amtrak's Downeaster, which offers passenger rail service between Portland and Boston, will get a boost from a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to a joint press release yesterday from Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

The grant was awarded to the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, which manages the Downeaster, and will be used to improve track quality and rail service in the Portland area.
