The president of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Brewer is stepping down to accept a position in his home state of Michigan.
Rand O’Leary, who joined the hospital when he moved to Maine in 2019, has been named president of Henry Ford Health Wyandotte Hospital, a general hospital in Wyandotte, about 11 miles south of Detroit. O’Leary’s previously served as a senior vice president and chief operating officer at Wyandotte from 2011-14.
Parent company Northern Light made the announcement March 3.
“His voice and intellect will be greatly missed," said Timothy Dentry, Northern Light Health President and CEO. "Rand was deeply involved with everyone in moving Eastern Maine Medical Center forward as we continue to heal and regroup after serving Maine in the best way possible during the pandemic.”
Less than a year a year into his tenure at EMMC, O’Leary shepherded the medical center through the coronavirus pandemic "with a steadfast determination to keep patients, staff, and community safe," the release said.
O’Leary was also a member of the Maine Hospital Association Board and served on its public policy committee. He became a regular contributor at the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce Legislative Hot Stove sessions. O'Leary was a key member of the Community Health Leadership Board, which advocates for health care in the Bangor-Brewer region through partner organizations Community Health and Counseling, PCHC, St. Joseph Hospital, Northern Light Acadia Hospital and the city of Bangor.
O’Leary’s last day at Northern Light Health will be March 31. Dentry will assume leadership responsibility on April 1 for EMMC in addition to his role as Northern Light Health CEO.
A search for the next EMMC president will begin immediately.
“Having served in this capacity at EMMC in the past, I have a deep appreciation for the doctors, nurses, and all staff at the Medical Center and intend to be deeply involved with all in moving the medical center forward,” Dentry said.
