Citing the importance of northern New England to the success of his company, FairPoint CEO David Hauser yesterday assured regulators from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont that the company would resolve lingering customer service problems.
"I have a huge sense of urgency," Hauser told regulators, who gathered in Derry, N.H., for the unusual joint meeting. "Let's face it, northern New England is what makes or breaks FairPoint."
Hauser and other company officials told members of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, the Vermont Public Service Board and the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission that FairPoint expected to receive a consultant's list of recommended changes by mid-November, according to the Bangor Daily News. The North Carolina-based communications company has been beset with problems since it took over operations for former Verizon customers six months ago.
The number of complaints that reach the regulators now has declined sharply, but FairPoint officials acknowledged they are still about three times higher than before the switch-over from Verizon, according to the newspaper.
