Maine Heritage Policy Center CEO Tarren Bragdon is leaving the conservative think tank to launch a similar one in Florida.
Bradgon, who has led the Portland-based center for three-and-a-half years, will step down next month to start a policy center in Naples, Fla., according to a press release. The new center will focus on government accountability and transparency, free market principles and patient-centered health care reform. While CEO of MHPC, Bragdon grew the group's visibility and helped design a strategic plan for the organization. In 2008, the center launched MaineOpenGov.org, a searchable database of state payroll and other government expenditures. The MHPC board has begun a search for a new CEO.
Prior to leading MHPC, Bragdon served as its health care policy specialist. Recently, Bragdon has also served as a member of Gov. Paul LePage's transition and budget teams. Mainebiz named Bragdon a 2008 Next List honoree, and Bragdon and other MHPC staff write a column for Mainebiz called Public Engagement, alternating with the Maine Center for Economic Policy.
