Poll: Consumer confidence has dropped

Mainers are more pessimistic about the economy than they were a year ago, according to results from a Market Decisions poll released Tuesday.

Nearly 55% of Mainers surveyed said they're worse off financially than they were a year ago, compared to 30% in the same poll last year, according to results from the Portland research firm's quarterly consumer-confidence poll. Consumer confidence is at the lowest point since the firm first began the poll in 2000, the company said.

For the poll, Market Decisions surveyed 404 people between April 16 and May 8. The report's error margin is plus or minus five percentage points.
